Op 22 november 2024 komt Yoko Seyama vertellen over haar werk. De in Berlijn woonachtige Japanse scenografe en multimediakunstenaar Yoko Seyama is gespecialiseerd in ruimtelijke, op tijd gebaseerde kunst. In haar werk combineert ze digitale elementen met natuurlijke materialen en transformeert ze deze in veranderlijke installaties in openbare ruimtes, theaters, musea en galeries.
In haar installaties en decorontwerpen speelt licht een belangrijke rol. Het lijkt wel alsof de materialen zelf licht geven. Haar bijzondere ontwerpen lijken uit een andere wereld te komen.

BIO YOKO SEYAMA
The Berlin-based Japanese scenographer and Multimedia artist Yoko Seyama specializes in spatial time-based art. Her works combine digital elements with natural materials and transform them into mutating spaces in Public Spaces, Theatres, Museums, and Galleries. Light is one of her major elements.
Her installations have been exhibited throughout the world, Zentrum für Internationale Lichtkunst (DE), Borås Art Museum (SE), Museo della luce (Rome), LUMINA Festival of Light (PT), Lighting Guerrilla Festival (SL), Vilnius Light Festival (LT), Wood Street Galleries (Pittsburgh), STRP, TodaysArt, SonicActsXIII (NL), Pola Museum Annex, Todays Art, Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (JP), Bangkok Citycity Gallery, MAIIAM (TH) and many others.
For the Performing Arts, she created her unique scenography for dance, ballet, musicals, opera, and concerts, such as NDT, Berlin Friedrichstadt-Palast, Staatsballett Berlin, Leipzig Ballet, Grand Theatre Łódź, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Astana Opera, Theatre of Musical Comedy St Petersburg, National Dance Company Wales UK, and New National Ballet of Japan. She has staged with many theatre directors, choreographers, and composers worldwide. Collaborations include Jiří Kylián, Dirk P Haubrich, Giorgio Madia, Cornelius Baltus, Jean-Philippe Dury, Raimondo Rebeck, Iván Pérez, Gentian Doda, Fernando Melo and others.
She holds an MA in Art Science from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and a BA in Architecture from Musashino Art University, Tokyo. She has received a grant from the Pola Art Foundation (JP), a Lighting Design Award in Concert Lighting Installation 2023, and a nomination for the 22nd Hong Kong Dance Awards Shortlist Outstanding Set Design.
